Biomass Gasification

-
Biomass Pellets are then fed, at a steady rate, into the gasifier. Here the pellets are exposed to high temperatures, in a reducing environment, in order to gasify plant material. The gas produced is generally termed synthetic gas or SYNGAS. The resulting SYNGAS is then lead into specialized syngas generators which produce electricity just as a standard diesel generator would.

The Carbon Cycle
-
As trees grow, for example a pine plantation may grow over a 25 year cycle, they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. When gasified, a lesser ammount of carbon is emitted, therefore, power is produced in a cycle that is CARBON NEUTRAL and RENEWABLE.
-
Gasification is currently the FASTEST GROWING renewable energy sector, with whole plantations being dedicated to gasification in Canada, the US, Europe and China.
Johannesburg is currently the most forested city in the world, with garden refuse collected by Pikitup alone, estimated to be 200,000MT / Year.
Current Status of the Project – April 2011
-
The EIA is being handled by WSP (Eden Wildy)
The engineering due diligence is being done by AR Process Projects (Rex Zietsman) Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyre (Claire Barclay) has been mandated to cover the legal scope of the project including the feedstock agreement (already written). Ideal land has been sourced and a draft lease agreement has been drafted. (Our position means very little change in logistics for Pikitup) The IDC have an option for 49% shareholding and we have completed a full due diligence with them. (Our PM is Jaco Sholtz) Celadex (Pty) Ltd is fully BEE approved (Mandlesilo Investments 51%, EcoMethods 49%)
This project is being steered by Peter Vundla (http://www.whoswhosa.co.za/user/1319 )
